Jordan Celebrates Teachers Impact and Strengthens Global Education Partnerships

Jordan Celebrates Teachers Impact

Jordan has marked World Teachers’ Day with an event celebrating the lasting influence of educators on students, families and communities. Organised by UNESCO and the Queen Rania Teacher Academy (QRTA), the celebration highlighted the importance of supporting teachers and strengthening their role in shaping the future of education.

Held under the theme “From Jordan to the World: Celebrating Teachers and Their Impact,” the event took place under the patronage of Prof. Azmi Mahafzah, Jordan’s Minister of Education and Human Resources Development. It brought together educators and national and international education experts to discuss the contribution of teachers to learning and community development.

The focus on Jordan teachers’ impact extended beyond classroom performance, recognising how educators influence students’ confidence, personal development and future opportunities. The event also highlighted the importance of listening to teachers’ experiences when shaping education policies and improving learning environments.

Education Ministry Emphasises Investment in Teachers

Speaking to the conference, the Education and Human Resources Development Minister Prof. Azmi Mahafzah noted that the teacher is central to the education process and for the shaping of future generations.

He pointed out that for education to be improved and developed, there is need for investing in the teacher, through capacity building, empowerment, collaboration and the creation of an environment where the teachers can fulfill their duties.

The minister also mentioned attempts made in trying to deal with challenges facing teachers as well as the creation of chances for academic and educational collaboration with local and foreign partners.

This showed Jordan teachers’ impact, it was not only about being committed but also about being supported and given professional chances.

Teachers have a crucial part to play in making sure that knowledge and skills are gained by students.

Queen Rania Teacher Academy Joins the Teacher Task Force

One of the developments that were announced in the celebration was the involvement of the Queen Rania Teacher Academy in the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030. This is referred to as the Teacher Task Force.

This step links Jordan’s expertise in the education of teachers with an international body concerned with enhancing the teaching profession. It provides Jordan with an opportunity to share knowledge and practice and contribute to the international discourse on teacher development.

According to Abdelmajeed Shamlawi, the CEO of the Queen Rania Teacher Academy, continuous professional development is key in building education systems. The involvement of the academy in the Teacher Task Force was seen as a significant step in linking Jordan’s initiatives with the international teaching community.

The development enhances the international profile of Jordan’s initiatives aimed at supporting teachers.

Teachers’ Voices at the Centre of the Celebration

Personal testimonies were given by a teacher, a learner, and a parent, showing how teachers can affect people’s lives even outside their teaching profession.

This showed how teachers can affect the life of the learners through their relations and that of the learners’ families, thus helping in boosting the learners’ confidence and motivation.

Noha Bawazir, UNESCO Representative to Jordan, reiterated the need for recognizing the contributions of teachers and holding together the same commitment in support of the teaching profession.

The celebration marked the 60th Anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

The focus on Jordan teachers’ impact reflects a broader international discussion about the need to recognise educators, strengthen their professional standing and ensure they receive the support required to help learners succeed.

Strengthening International Cooperation in Education

The alliance between UNESCO, the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, and Queen Rania Teacher Academy shows that cooperation is key to educational development.

International platforms like the Teacher Task Force act as a way of allowing governments, educational organizations, and others to share experiences and exchange ideas about issues involving teachers.

In Jordan, participation of the academy helps create a stronger link between the work done nationally for teacher development and the international quest for improving the quality of education.

The impact initiative for Jordan teachers further highlights the need to regard teachers not only as receivers of the policies but also active participants in education reform.

Looking Ahead

The World Teachers’ Day celebrations in Jordan featured an important consideration of educational systems, namely the empowerment of the teaching profession through development and involvement.

The establishment of the Teacher Task Force through the Queen Rania Teacher Academy is a move towards international collaboration, while the personal narratives at the World Teachers’ Day event demonstrated the lasting effect that teachers have on their students.

As educational systems adapt themselves to the new needs of learners, the Jordan teachers’ impact demonstrates how important it is to invest in those who provide education.

However, the lasting effects of this process will depend on translating such recognition and international cooperation into real benefits for the teachers and learners.
