In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, which evaluated a record 2,191 universities in 115 countries this year, Oxford University has reclaimed its top rank.
In the 21-year history of the rankings, Oxford has maintained the top spot for
the longest period of time, having done so since 2017. Historically, only two
universities have risen to the top of these rankings: Harvard University and
the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
The award, according to Oxford Vice-Chancellor Professor Irene Tracey,
"reflects the dedication of the university's academics, staff, and
students." She stressed that although the accomplishment is noteworthy,
there is a lot of strain on UK higher education. "Renewed investment and support
are necessary to sustain a dynamic and globally competitive sector so that
universities can continue to drive discovery, opportunity, and economic growth
for future generations," she said.
Chief Global Affairs Officer, Phil Baty, emphasized Oxford University 's accomplishment in
the face of intense international competition. He pointed out that Oxford
successfully competes with both new research powerhouses in East Asia,
especially China, and better-funded American colleges. Baty praised the
university's emphasis on international talent and cross-border knowledge
sharing while attributing its success to its strong performance across all 18
performance metrics in THE's methodology, including teaching quality, research
excellence, industry engagement, and international outlook.
Oxford University ongoing supremacy highlights its standing as a world leader in
research, teaching, and innovation, enhancing its appeal as a travel
destination for scholars and students from all over the world.
