OpenAI
Academy India launches as OpenAI’s first global AI education platform in
partnership with IndiaAI.
The
initiative includes multilingual training, teacher upskilling, hackathons, and
API credits for AI innovation.
Key
Background :
India is
second-largest after the US in terms of ChatGPT users today, which is an
indication of the rapid growth of AI technology adoption in the country. OpenAI
took cognisance of this trend by teaming up with the government of India to
launch OpenAI Academy India—a special effort towards scaling up AI literacy and
capacity-building. It is in line with the overall IndiaAI Mission, whose aim is
to make India a global AI hub.
The
academy will provide online and offline learning materials through the IndiaAI
FutureSkills portal and iGOT Karmayogi and address different segments such as
government employees, teachers, and youth. The multilingual feature makes it
accessible to learners from diverse regions, overcoming the digital divide and
regional language barriers in AI training.
To
support this further, OpenAI will also conduct webinars, city-level workshops,
and hackathons at the state level for over 25,000 students. OpenAI will also
offer API credits to up to 50 Indian startups and AI fellows to help them
develop AI-based solutions. This hands-on exercise enables them to innovate and
utilize their knowledge of AI in practical situations.
The plan
involves one million teacher upskilling programs for the implementation of
generative AI tools. This large-scale upskilling program will have its
by-effects, thus making AI literacy implemented in all Indian schools and
institutions. Through this plan, OpenAI intends not just to enhance the
nation's AI prowess but also make an effort in attempting to make access to
advanced technology more equal.
