Key Background:

1. Established Legacy and National Importance

Nagaland University was established in 1989 by an Act of Parliament and is the sole Central University in the state. It is contributing significantly towards giving quality higher education in Northeast India. NAAC accredited, the university operates from three campuses: Lumami (head office), Medziphema (School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development), and Meriema (School of Social Sciences and Humanities). The three centers combined provide humongous opportunities in academics to students from all corners of India.

2. Structured Academic Schools and NEP Integration

The university operates under the umbrella of four schools of study—Sciences; Social Sciences; Humanities and Education; and Management Studies—each being a series of departments providing programmes based on trending industry and educational trends. With NEP 2020 reform introductions, Nagaland University provides multiple-exit academic programmes through which students are able to obtain certification at levels based on credit accumulation. Provision for continuing education and professional upgradation is provided in the campus.

3. Diversified Departments and Research Centre

43 teaching departments and five research centres are provided by Nagaland University. These are fairly spread out across fields such as Environmental Science, Botany, Chemistry, Law, Commerce, Agricultural Engineering, Forestry, and Education. The university offers facilitating opportunities for an academically oriented life that provides facilitating environments to scholars of all ranks to facilitate the conversion of actual problem-solving and innovation into practice.

4. National and International Recognition

Departments like Chemistry have obtained international reputation with a fraction of its personnel falling in the top 2% scientists in the world. Even departments like Botany, Environmental Science, and Geology have obtained national fellowships for research from prestigious organizations like DBT, DST, ICSSR, and NEC for staff research, infrastructure, and student fellowships.

5. Holistic Student Infrastructure

Nagaland University has also spent a great deal on the most advanced infrastructure to aid in the success of the students. They range from advanced laboratories, computer libraries, high-speed internet connections, hostels, sports grounds, gyms, health care centers, and many different cafeterias. These aid in ensuring that the students live a healthy life, academic and personal, while at the university.

6. Culturally Diverse and Inclusive Environment

The college is also abuzz with Northeast Indian students and even beyond the states of Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and Tamil Nadu. This is highly academically satisfying where one is able to witness cultural heritage intersecting with modern education. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik once again goes on record to say that the ambition of the institution is not just to be academic champions but socially accountable citizens who can make a difference to society.
